Irene's Browned Rice

1 medium onion
1 cup raw rice
1 can mushrooms
1 stick butter
1 can consomme
1 cup water
saute onion in butter in heavy skillet. Remove onions. Add rice to remaining butter and very slowly brown it, stirring the rice constantly. Mix with onions and other ingredients. Bake uncovered in a casserole dish at 350. Stir occasionally while it cooks. 45 minutes or so.
